FERTITEC: A new Horizon Europe project has kicked off!
With the completion of our Kick-Off Meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece, the FERTITEC consortium’s work on delivering comprehensive solution for waste recycling and sustainable fertiliser production from secondary raw materials has begun.
We are delighted to announce the official start of FERTITEC, a 36-month Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Research Executive Agency. The project brings together an expert consortium of 7 partners that covers 15 countries in Europe and Africa.
FERTITEC is an integral part of a group of related projects that strive to transform waste into high-quality fertilisers, promote a circular economy, and mitigate environmental impact, thereby aligning with the EU’s goals of sustainable agriculture, waste reduction, and bioeconomy enhancement.
The project will map and analyse the current alternative fertiliser landscape in the EU and East Africa, and then perform analysis and evaluation of all environmental, social, and economic aspects to bring the Best Available Techniques for recovering/recycling nutrients to produce alternative fertilisers to the fore. We will also set up practical tools and a knowledge exchange platform to mobilise key agricultural sector players and help stakeholders on the ground to better understanding the potential of alternative fertiliser products.
Thus, FERTITEC seeks to make a tangible impact at national and regional levels, in several EU countries, as well as extrapolating our outcomes to the African Union landscape by providing practical recommendations and guidelines. Overall, we aim to increase the adoption of our alternative fertilising products and the wider transformation of the agricultural sector globally.
